Google Sitemaps for WordPress
Google now has a new (in beta) feature called Google Sitemaps to quote the folks at Google:
“Google Sitemaps is an experiment in web crawling. Using Sitemaps to inform and direct our crawlers, we hope to expand our coverage of the web and improve the time to inclusion in our index. By placing a Sitemap-formatted file on your webserver, you enable our crawlers to find out what pages are present and which have recently changed, and to crawl your site accordingly.”>
With my switch over to WordPress I wrote a page that will produce a sitemap using the data in WordPress. It will create entries for posts, static page, categories, and feeds.
You can view the contents of my sitemap.php file which is stored in my WordPress directory.
You can see the Sitemap output here.
Update: Michael Nguyen has created some php code to generate wordpress Sitemaps dynamically which has been updated by Dean Sas to include categories in sitemaps also.

Including a last modified date for the categories is a very good idea. Unfortunately your script generates a database error.
See the last entry in the XML output: WordPress database error.
Also, the base url is not displayed, see first entry:

Works well for me. Great tool.
Great idea. I’ll be setting it up
Google site map seems to work well. I believe google crawls faster with it implemented.
It is always better to do Google site map this fastens the speed of Google crawler. xml format does even better.
I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
